Victor Osimhen Confronts Player Who Injured Him During 2026 WCQ, Video

Victor Osimhen was taken off the pitch in the 35th minute after a rough tackle from a Rwanda defender during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier match at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Saturday evening, September 6.

The Galatasaray forward was replaced by Cyriel Dessers, who made an impact in the game, which ended 1-0 in favour of the Super Eagles, with the lone goal coming from substitute Tolu Arokodare in the 51st minute.

The victory takes Nigeria to 10 points, six behind table toppers South Africa, ahead of Tuesday's clash in Bloemfontein, per TnTSports.

Osimhen, who is playing his third match in the World Cup qualifying series, scored his first two goals against the Amavubi at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali last March.

The former Napoli forward scored his third goal in Nigeria's draw against the Warriors of Zimbabwe in Uyo to surpass Super Eagles legend Segun Odegbami, popularly known as Mathematical, as Nigeria's second all-time goal scorer.

The stakes were high against Rwanda at home as Nigerians expected to score, but his goal was ruled out in the 7th minute following an offside position before he was taken off the pitch, per Goal.

Osimhen causes drama during first-half break

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen failed to join his teammates at the dressing room at the end of the first half between Nigeria and Rwanda.

In a viral post on X, the 26-year-old was seen challenging the Rwanda defender Claude Niyomugabo, who injured him during the first half of the encounter.

The APR defender narrated how he was trying to clear the ball off the striker's leg but ended up kicking him. The player went on to apologise to Victor Osimhen before the Rwandan coach Adel Amourche appealed to the Galatasaray forward.

The former Lille striker went back to the substitute bench before the commencement of the second half while putting on slippers.

Mixed reactions trail Osimhen's move

Some Nigerians have shared their opinion on Victor Osimhen confronting the Rwandan defender after the end of the first half.

Melo shows concern over Osimhen's injury

Legit.ng earlier reported that Galatasaray legend Felipe Melo is worried about the injury Victor Osimhen sustained during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

In a post on X, the Brazilian legend urged the AFCON silver medallist not to get hurt while playing for his country.
