Both matches have been termed must-win games for the Super Eagles, with Eric Chelle releasing a strong 23-man squad list for both matches.

Nigeria have made a slow start to their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign as they have collected just seven points from six matches, trailing South Africa, who sit on top of Group C with 13 points, per FIFA.com.

The Super Eagles have dropped points against teams they were expected to beat, including home draws with Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

Failure to turn things around would mean missing out on the World Cup for the second time in a row after the disappointment of Qatar 2022.

How much each Super Eagles player will be paid

Ahead of these crucial World Cup qualifiers, the Nigerian government has introduced a new incentive system for the national team, Score Nigeria reports.

The previous model paid players a win bonus for each match, but that has now been scrapped in favour of appearance fees, daily camp allowances, and a lump sum if the team qualifies for the World Cup.

Under the revised structure, each player will receive $1,000 (N1,529,139) for each game, regardless of the result. In addition, the players will also get $200 (N305,778) for each day spent in camp.

For this international window, which covers two matches and eight days of camp, every player will earn $3,600 (N5,497,020). That includes $2,000 in appearance fees and $1,600 in camp allowances.

The real incentive comes later. If Nigeria secure a World Cup ticket, the squad will be handed a record-breaking qualification bonus covering all ten matches in the campaign.

The team could also be rewarded with $100,000 if they qualify for the World Cup, just as the Super Falcons, and D'Tigress after their recent victories.

All eyes on Rwanda and South Africa

For now, Nigeria’s focus is firmly on the next two games as Rwanda visit Uyo first, followed by a trip to face Bafana Bafana in Johannesburg.

Head coach Chelle knows that anything less than six points could end Nigeria’s hopes of making it to the 2026 finals in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
