Their opening offer was a package worth €40 million, which Atalanta swiftly rejected. Inter returned with an improved proposal of €45 million, including add-ons, but that too was turned down.
In light of the rejections, Lookman, 27, went as far as publicly demanding a transfer and even skipping training for over a week.
Atalanta have remained firm in their stance as the Bergamo-based club view the forward as a key figure in their squad and have no intention of selling him, particularly this late in the transfer window.
Inter Milan, meanwhile, now believe their efforts to sign Lookman have hit a dead end.
Inter Milan to focus on other targets
With negotiations at a standstill, Inter Milan have decided to reallocate the funds that had been set aside for Lookman’s transfer.

According to SportMediaset, the Serie A giants will now prioritise strengthening other areas of the squad, particularly defence and midfield.
Udinese’s Oumar Solet has emerged as a leading target for the former Serie A champions.
The French centre-back has impressed in Serie A with his strength, composure, and aerial ability, and Inter Milan view him as an ideal reinforcement to bolster their backline.
In midfield, the Nerazzurri are also determined to land a true holding midfielder to add balance and cover in front of their defence.
While names remain under wraps, speculation suggests they may reignite their long-standing interest in Roma’s players or explore other late-window opportunities.
Meanwhile, Sempre Inter suggest that the club could revisit the forward market towards the end of the transfer window, depending on availability and market dynamics. For now, however, the Lookman saga is effectively over.
For the reigning CAF Player of the Year winner, the situation leaves him in a difficult position.
His open desire to join Inter Milan, combined with his refusal to attend training, has placed a strain on his relationship with Atalanta.
Unless there is a dramatic late twist, Lookman will spend the rest of the season at Atalanta.
