The chairman of the Anambra Football Association, Mr. Chikelue Iloenyosi, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Super Falcons of Nigeria for their remarkable victory in the 13th edition of the African Women's Football championship, winning their 10th golden truphy in 13 editions.

On Saturday, July 26th, the Nigeria women produced stunning comeback after a 2:0 halftime loss, to beat Morocco 3:2 to win 10th WAFCON title.

Super Falcons stunned host Morocco with comeback

Nigeria staged an extraordinary second-half comeback to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 and lift their 10th TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) crown at the Stade Olympique in Rabat.

Trailing 2-0 at half-time in front of a partisan Moroccan crowd, the Super Falcons showed their pedigree and resilience, clawing their way back into the match with a display of clinical finishing and sheer determination to cement their status as queens of African football.

Nigeria appeared stunned and went into the break trailing by two goals, facing an uphill battle. But coach Justin Madugu’s half-time talk sparked a spirited response from the Super Falcons.

But the night belonged to the Super Falcons, whose experience, depth and never-say-die spirit propelled them to yet another African title - their 10th in 13 editions.

Anambra FA reacts to Falcons' win

In an exclusive telephone chat with Legit.ng correspondent, the chairman of Anambra State Football Association, Chikelue Iloenyosi, said that Nigeria’s triumph not only extended their unmatched legacy on the continent but also served as a resounding statement that, even in the face of rising challenges, they remain the team to beat in African women’s football.

He said:

"I'm overwhelmed that the Super Falcons closed up from 2:0 loss to a 3:2 win. The girls showed capacity and commitment to lift the truphy for Nigeria. I am particularly happy that they won the truphy under a local coach."

He says that the victory highlights the team's exceptional talent and determination, bringing pride to women, and Nigerians in general.

Iloenyosi expressed optimism that this win will inspire more young girls in the country to pursue football, fostering the growth of women's sports.

Iloenyosi also called on Nigeria's football governing body to intensify efforts in supporting the Super Falcons, so that they can replicate their continental dominance on the world stage.

Iloenyosi emphasized the importance of providing the necessary resources and infrastructure to help the team excel at the world cup. He believes that with adequate support and preparation, the Super Falcons can achieve greater heights and showcase their talent on a global platform. He expressed that the Nigerian women have the potential to make significant impacts beyond Africa.
