Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed deep grief over the death of veteran Nollywood actor Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, saying the loss leaves a painful void in Nigeria's creative community.
Atiku shared his tribute on X on August 23, 2026, noting that the news was made more difficult by how recently the public had learned of the actor's cancer diagnosis.

"The news of the passing of celebrated Nollywood actor, Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, is deeply saddening. It is particularly painful that only days after the public became aware of his battle with cancer, we are confronted with the heartbreaking news of his demise," he wrote.
Atiku pays tribute to Taiwo Hassan's legacy
The former vice president described Taiwo Hassan as a figure who went beyond entertaining audiences, using his platform to reflect Nigerian society and drive social change.
"Alhaji Taiwo Hassan was more than a gifted actor. Through a remarkable career, he brought laughter into countless homes, told stories that reflected our society and used his talent not only to entertain but also to educate and inspire social rebirth," Atiku said.
He extended his condolences to the actor's family, colleagues, and fans both within Nigeria and around the world.
"I join his family, colleagues and admirers in Nigeria and across the world in mourning this profound loss. May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, comfort his loved ones and grant him eternal rest in Al-Jannah Firdaus. Ameen," his post read.

Hassan Ogogo dies at 66 after battle with cancer
Legit.ng earlier reported that Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan Ogogo is dead after a battle with stage four cancer. This was confirmed by his daughter Kira in a live-streamed video on Sunday, August 23.
In the clip, the emotional Kira could be seen alongside other family members as she scampered around while she was consoled.
