Also, the meeting held days after was reported to have allegedly started planning to contest the 2027 presidential election, despite public rejection of the ambition from his wife, Patience.
The meeting also came at a time when the former president was said to have kick-started his campaigns to secure the PDP presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.
Jonathan allegedly started the 2027 campaigns
A few days ago, it was reported that Jonathan's camp had been holding meetings outside the country to avoid spies, and there was a plan to meet with Obi with the hope of his stepping down, and the former vice president would have a smooth run to winning the PDP presidential ticket.
However, the former president has been advised not to contest against President Tinubu in the 2027 election. His wife, Patience, has kicked against it. Also, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former governor of Rivers, Nyesom Wike, as well as former Edo governor, Adams Oshiomhole, have urged Jonathan to maintain his elder statesmanship.
On the other hand, Obi was part of the opposition leaders in the coalition movement alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi. However, Obi appeared to be eyeing the PDP ticket, as Atiku and Amaechi are eyeing the coalition presidential ticket.
The coalition, which was started by Atiku, has vowed to sack President Tinubu in the 2027 election, citing his economic policies as enough reasons for Nigerians to vote him out in the poll.
