FCT, Abuja - Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, on Thursday, September 4, 2025, said achieving revenue targets means nothing if it does not impact the lives of the people.
In a statement he personally signed, obtained by Legit.ng, Obi, a former governor of Anambra state, said accomplishing revenue targets is useless if those who serve and build the nation are left with unpaid entitlements in their difficult years.

Legit.ng had reported how President Bola Tinubu declared that his administration has met its revenue target for the year, primarily from the non-oil sector.
The president also stated that the country is stabilised and the government no longer borrows money from domestic banks, adding that what the administration needs is to create jobs for the people.
Peter Obi slams Tinubu's govt
President Tinubu told his supporters not to allow anybody to threaten them over the 2027 elections.
But reacting to the president's remarks, former Governor Obi lamented that people who served Nigeria are still "protesting over unpaid gratuities and pensions".
The presidential hopeful said:
"Having met our revenue target for the year ahead of schedule, we should show sensitivity and compassion to the suffering masses by deploying resources to critical areas that will help to create jobs to alleviate the people's hardships.
"For instance, critical economic players and their associated institutions are undergoing a serious dearth of funds, and their effect is showing in areas they support, like SMEs. Some of them are even protesting as they cannot meet their banks' and staff needs.
"Why are retired public servants, including service men and women who have risked their lives for the nation, still protesting over unpaid gratuities and pensions?"

"It is shameful that those who built this nation with their sweat, those who defended it with their lives, and those who have fulfilled their contractual obligations are reduced to begging for what is rightfully theirs, even after the government boasts of excess revenue.
"Achieving revenue targets means nothing if it does not impact the lives of the people, if those who serve and build the nation are left with unpaid entitlements in their difficult years, and those who have genuinely fulfilled their contractual obligations, most of whom are SMES with one form of debt or the other are still unpaid.
"Our nation must not continue to throw its citizens into debt and despair. It is time for our government to act responsibly and with integrity."
Prophet dashes Obi's hopes
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Prophet Iniobong Israel, founder of Zion Gate Fire Ministry, declared that President Tinubu's re-election in 2027 is divinely ordained.
Speaking after allegedly receiving a revelation, Prophet Israel said his message was not rooted in personal sentiment but in divine message received through spiritual insight and 'the Word of God'.
According to the Akwa Ibom-based cleric, Obi cannot emerge victorious in the 2027 election.
