On Wednesday, September 3, a member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, disclosed that a former Kano state governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, is still open to joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Jibrin, a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), spoke on Wednesday, saying the doors have not closed for Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former NNPP presidential candidate to team up with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the APC.

“As far as that [joining APC] is concerned, he has always maintained that his doors are open, our doors are open for discussions. Everything is a possibility,” he said on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

Jibrin, Kwankwaso's top ally meets Tinubu in Abuja

Legit.ng understands that Kwankwaso's top ally, Abdulmumin Jibrin, made this disclosure weeks after meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the presidential villa in Abuja.

Jibrin, a lawmaker representing the Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, met with the president for the second term amid the rumour that the leader of the Kwankwasiyyah Movement, Kwankwaso was planning to dump the NNPP for the ruling APC.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Rabiu Kwankwaso commented on the rumour of his planned defection to the APC.

Kwankwaso, while addressing party faithful at the NNPP NEC meeting on Thursday, August 28, stated that he was not in a hurry.

Elsewhere, Legit.ng earlier reported that Rabiu Kwankwaso was seen at the Abuja airport with top politicians including Senate Deputy President Barau Jibrin and former Senate President Pius Anyim.

Kwankwaso's aide described the encounter as a sign of unity and mutual respect, sparking speculation about potential political realignment .

This development came on the heels of Kwankwaso’s alleged meeting with President Tinubu and reported plans to defect from NNPP to the APC.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Buba Galadima has ruled out the possibility of Rabiu Kwankwaso joining the APC, citing the emirship dispute in Kano state.

He accused the federal government of installing a parallel emir and backing the move with heavy police security.

Galadima maintained that such interference undermines Kano’s authority and makes cooperation with the APC impossible.
