Lagos Governor Announces 50% Anniversary Fare Slash On Blue Line

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has declared a 50 percent reduction in fares on the Blue Line train service for Thursday, 4 September 2025, in celebration of the rail system’s second anniversary.

The Lagos Blue Line, which began commercial operations in September 2023, has served as a vital link between Marina and Mile 2. Over the past two years, the electric-powered mass transit system has transported more than five million passengers without incident.

“In these two years, the Blue Line has carried more than five million passengers safely, without a single accident,” Sanwo-Olu stated in a press release issued on Wednesday.

The governor highlighted the operational efficiency of the service, noting that trains now run every ten minutes and complete over 90 trips daily. He said this has significantly reduced travel time for commuters across the state.

“These achievements show that when we work with dedication and purpose, we can build systems that truly serve the people,” he remarked.

Fare discount to encourage ridership on Lagos Blue Line

Sanwo-Olu explained that the fare reduction was a gesture of appreciation to Lagos residents for their continued support and trust in the state’s transportation initiatives. He encouraged those who had not yet experienced the Blue Line to take advantage of the discounted fares.

“To mark this second anniversary, I am pleased to announce a 50% reduction in fares on the Blue Line for tomorrow, Thursday, September 4, 2025. If you have not yet experienced the Blue Line, I encourage you to take a ride and see what we have built together,” the statement read.

Commitment to modern mobility in Lagos

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving urban mobility, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the Blue Line was part of a broader vision to create a safer, faster, and more efficient transport system in Lagos.

“Our journey is far from over. Step by step, we are creating the Lagos we all desire,” he concluded.

The fare reduction is expected to boost ridership and further highlight the Blue Line’s role in transforming public transportation in Nigeria’s commercial capital.

Sanwo-Olu kicks off Lagos red line train operations

Legit.ng earlier reported that the Lagos stater governor, Babajde Sanwo-Olu has on Tuesday, October 15, kicked off the operation of the Lagos red line train with an inaugural trip.

The Lagos Red Line train made its inaugural journey from Oyingbo Station to Agbado, however, marking the official commencement of commercial operations for the long-awaited rail service.

In a statement shared via X by the Lagos state government, the governor arrived at Oyingbo Station at 5:00 PM, with conmpany of the state cabinet members, lawmakers, corporate executives, and journalists who were invited to join the trip.
