Tinubu Sends Message to Wike as FCT Head of Service, Adayilo Dies

FCT, Abuja - President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday, September 2, commiserated with Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), on the death of Mrs. Grace Adayilo, the pioneer head of service (HoS) of the Federal Capital Administration (FCTA).

Legit.ng had reported that Adayilo, who was also known as Mama Africa, passed away in the early hours of Monday, September 1.

Her death was confirmed by Danladi Jeji, president of the Original Inhabitants Development Association of Abuja (OIDA), who said he was collaborating with her on a project.

Minister Wike described Adayilo’s passing as sad.

He said during a media chat on Monday, September 1:

“Her death is really sad and unfortunate."

Tinubu mourns Grace Adayilo

In his reaction to the top public official's demise, President Tinubu prayed for the peaceful repose of Adayilo's soul. Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga shared the president's condolence message.

The Nigerian leader's statement reads in full:

"President Bola Tinubu commiserates with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Nyesom Ezenwa Wike, on the passing of Mrs. Grace Adayilo, the pioneer Head of Service of the Federal Capital Administration (FCTA).
"The President also extends his sympathies to the children, family, and loved ones of the late Mrs. Adayilo and the FCTA's management and staff.

"A dedicated public servant, she previously served as Education Secretary of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC). Minister Wike appointed her as the first FCT Head of Service, following President Tinubu's approval of a new civil service structure for the FCT.
"President Tinubu prays for the peaceful repose of Mrs. Adayilo's soul and wishes her family, friends, and colleagues the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss."

Legit.ng reports that President Tinubu appointed Adayilo as head of the civil service of the FCT on October 6, 2024.

She made history as the first female HoS of the FCT.

Before her appointment, Adayilo served as permanent secretary (PS) of the agriculture and rural development secretariat.

Tinubu mourns Mana

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that President Tinubu expressed deep grief over the passing of former military governor of Plateau state, Colonel Mohammed Mana (rtd).

In a condolence message, the President described the late Col. Mana as a gentleman and a patriot.
