Breaking: Former AGF Malami’s Convoy Attacked in Kebbi, Details Emerge

Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi state - Suspected political thugs attacked the convoy of the former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi state capital.
The incident reportedly occurred on Monday, September 1, 2025.

It was gathered that Malami was attacked while on a condolence visit to several families in the metropolis.
As reported by The Punch, witnesses said about 10 vehicles in the convoy were vandalised, while several of Malami’s supporters sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Malami described the attack as politically motivated.
Speaking with newsmen after the attack, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain and leader in Kebbi state, said:
“I was in Birnin Kebbi solely to pay condolences to families who lost their loved ones while I was away, not for political campaigns.
“It’s painful and unfortunate. Some thugs emerged from the APC state headquarters, armed with weapons and stones, and attacked our convoy, destroying vehicles and injuring our supporters.

APC reacts to attack on Malami's convoy
The APC Publicity Secretary, Isa Assalafy, alleged that armed security personnel attached to Malami’s convoy opened fire during the confrontation.

Assalafy claimed teh action of the security personnel escalated the situation.
“No government that enjoys the massive support of the people and is confident of victory in 2027 would want the peace of the state disrupted."

Malami slams APC for endorsing Tinubu amid hardship
Recall that Malami criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for ignoring governance and endorsing President Bola Tinubu for a second term.
Legit.ng earlier reported that the leadership of the Senate and the House of Representatives declared Tinubu as the APC's sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
But reacting, the former AGF said the APC was insensitive to the plight of Nigerians, adding that the party ignored insecurity and the economic crisis that had plunged Nigerians into hardship and poverty.
Peter Obi meets Malami amid coalition talks
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Peter Obi met with Malami amid the coalition talks to unseat Tinubu in 2027.
The meeting, held at Malami’s office, comes amid ongoing consultations to form a broad-based political coalition ahead of the 2027 election.
Malami, a senior advocate of Nigeria, is believed to be eyeing the Kebbi state governorship seat in the 2027 poll.
