The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stirred controversy on social media after claiming that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has become a threat in Rivers state.
Wike, while speaking with some selected journalists in Abuja on Monday, September 1, said the level of federal appointments from the state has made the APC a threat to any other opposition parties in the oil-rich state.

The minister's comment came after the local government elections, where the APC won 20 of the 23 chairmanship seats in the state. Wike is serving as a minister under President Bola Tinubu, the APC leader in the country, and has consistently maintained his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
How Nigerians reacted to Wike's claim
A clip of Wike's interview, which was shared on social media, has generated mixed reactions on social media.
Below are some of the reactions:
Atobajaye commented:
"Let Wike continue deceiving himself; soon, he will be used and discarded. He thinks he is wiser than the true lord of politics, yet he is only being manipulated to serve another man’s ambition."

Akin Omo Akin praised the former Rivers governor:
"Wike is very smart, honestly, even though he might not be as smart as PBAT, but he’s very smart. I wish he could talk less like PBAT. The LG where APC won was his handwork. He purposely left his LG and the other two for PDP because of this interview. Now nobody can say he was defeated in his LG."
Bob Loco alleged:
"The PDP has to now expel Wike for anti-party activities.. He clearly helped rig the APC to control 20 of the 23 local government areas of Rivers State. He cut a disreputable deal with Tinubu."

Adeyinla Kanmi wrote:
"He wants to use those APC boys at the grassroots to work for APC as per working for Tinubu and use them to work for his candidate at the Guber election."
Joew asserted:
"How do appointments relate to the economic growth of the state? Someone from Rivers might come here, take 10,000 Naira, and continue with their unfulfilling lives. I keep saying that there's no developed country or place in the world where politics takes precedence."
