This was disclosed in a statement signed by the group's president, Murtala Abdullahi, made available to Legit.ng on Monday, August 18.
According to the statement, the president commended Matawalle for his role in keeping the party's grassroots strength despite vacating the office after losing his second-term bid.
Abdullahi acknowledged that the election results collated by independent observers are a testament to Matawalle's steadfastness and political commitment to his party.
“Despite not holding the reins of state government, Matawalle has shown uncommon leadership and loyalty to the APC. The bye-election has once again demonstrated his firm connection with the people and his ability to inspire confidence in our great party.
"Zamfara remains firmly rooted in the APC because of the structures and trust he built during his tenure,” Abdullahi said.
The group faulted the attempted effort to disrupt the Saturday, August 16, by-election by current political holders in the state, the deputy governor, commissioners and senior officials, reiterating the stance of APC supporters in making sure such acts were not successful.
INEC urges voters to prepare for supplementary polls
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the bye-election inconclusive, citing election irregularities in some polling units, urging electorates to prepare ahead of a new date for a supplementary poll.
The ZGGG urged the commission to maintain transparency in the process and guarantee that the outcome reflects the will of the people.
“Democracy must be defended at all costs. We call on INEC to ensure that the supplementary election is free, fair, and credible. The people of Zamfara have spoken, and their voice must not be silenced by manipulation or malpractice,” Abdullahi added.
The group tasked security agencies with providing optimal protection for the electorate during the supplementary poll, stressing the need to strengthen the courage exercised by the citizens during the Saturday, August 16 polls.
