Jonathan or Obi? Top Ex-Gov Mentions Best Bet for PDP in 2027

Sule Lamido, the former governor of Jigawa state, Sule Lamido, has declared that the best bet for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2027 presidential election was the former president Goodluck Jonathan.
The former governor then called on the leading opposition party to make a deliberate push to ensure that the ex-president returns to the PDP, stating that no current PDP member from the southern bloc has the kind of experience of Jonathan.

Sule Lamido speaks on PDP's chances
Lamido made the call while speaking on Channels TV politics today, adding that Nigerians would support anyone that the PDP put forward in the 2027 presidential election.
His statement reads in part:
“I think for PDP now they should try to woo him (Jonathan). He is their best bet. Anybody put forth by the PDP, Nigerians will support him”.
The former governor then described Jonathan as a leader who is well-grounded in governance with the experience of ruling the country before and working with others.
Peter Obi moves to return to PDP
This came amid the reported move by Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party and former PDP member, to return to the umbrella party, with the hope of getting the PDP presidential ticket in the 2027 election.
Obi has recently said that the best way to sack President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 election is for the opposition leaders to come together in collaboration and have a shift in the country's political culture.
Obi, a former governor of Anambra state, made the position during his official visit to the governor of Bauchi state, Bala Mohammed, who also doubled as the chairman of the PDP governors' forum, on Friday, August 8.

Why Obi visited Bauchi state
The presidential hopeful maintained that though he was in the state to visit two nursing schools but more importantly, he had visited the governor in order to find solutions to Nigerians' problems collaboratively.
Obi stressed that the opposition leaders have to work together for the sake of the country, expressing optimism that things will get better for the country and its future.
The former governor recently confirmed talks with the PDP and other opposition parties through the national coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Tanko Yunusa, in Abuja on Thursday, July 31. Yunusa explained that Obi was open to discussion with individuals and political parties, which can bring a new Nigeria.
Why 36 governors may support Tinubu
Legit.ng earlier reported that Kaduna state governor Uba Sani posited that it would be difficult for any Nigerian governor not to support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
Governor Sani explained that no Nigerian president had ever supported the states and local governments as Tinubu has done.
The Kaduna governor made the comment amid alignment and realignment from the ruling APC and other opposition parties in the country.
