2027 Election: Jonathan, Atiku, Obi Told to Join PDP Presidential Race, “The More, the Merrier”

Jonathan urged to contest for president

In a statement by his chief press secretary, Ibrahim Hassan Mahmoud, the PDP chieftain said he welcomed the politicians ahead of the party’s primaries, adding:

As reported by The Nation, he insisted that far from weakening the party, a competitive and transparent presidential primary would reawaken the PDP’s legacy as a democratic party in Nigeria.

The PDP chieftain called for a return to the party’s founding ideals of openness, tolerance, and democratic excellence.

“If Jonathan, Atiku, Obi, and others wish to contest, they should be welcomed. Let the best ideas and visions emerge through fair competition. That is how to build a party of the future,” he added.

Jonathan gets condition for PDP's automatic ticket

Legit.ng earlier reported that Daniel Woyengikuro, the PDP’s national financial secretary, confirmed the moves that the PDP will give the party’s presidential ticket in 2027 to Jonathan, if he returns to the party and plays a more active political role.

In a trending interview, Daniel Woyengikuro, on Wednesday, August 6, emphasized Jonathan’s continued influence within the party and the nation’s politics, describing him as the PDP’s national leader.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that PDP chieftain, Umar Sani, believes Jonathan should emerge as his party’s presidential candidate rather than Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party.

He stated that the North will prefer Jonathan to Obi, and Jonathan’s return to power for another four years will complete the South’s eight years.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that at a meeting hosted by FCT minister Nyesom Wike, some concerned leaders in the People Democratic Party agreed that the party must zone its presidential ticket to the South in 2027.
