A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, has dismissed allegations that Governor Dauda Lawal borrowed ₦34 billion to fund infrastructure projects in Zamfara state, describing them as baseless and politically motivated.
In a press statement released on Monday under the banner of the Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development, Dr Shinkafi accused opposition politicians of attempting to distract the governor from his development agenda.

He affirmed that no such loan was obtained from any financial institution, as Governor Lawal had consistently maintained.
Commending rapid transformation across Zamfara
Dr Shinkafi praised the scale and pace of infrastructural development under Governor Lawal’s administration, noting that the state capital, Gusau, now mirrors a modern city, a sharp contrast to its previous rural condition since the state was created in 1996.
He pointed to ongoing and completed projects such as the construction of township roads, the near-completion of the Gusau International Cargo Airport, and upgrades to general hospitals and schools across the 14 local government areas as evidence of visionary leadership.
“Zamfara is now a construction site. These achievements in less than two years are proof of focused, compassionate, and inclusive governance,” he said.
Applauds inclusive leadership and non-partisan governance
The former governorship candidate commended Governor Lawal’s inclusive approach to governance, citing his invitation to opposition leaders—including Shinkafi himself—for the commissioning of key projects.
He recalled former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s visit to the state, during which the elder statesman praised Lawal’s leadership.
“Good governance should rise above party lines. What matters is delivering results that benefit the people,” Shinkafi added.
Calls for political unity and continuity in Zamfara Central
Shinkafi urged political stakeholders in the state to set aside partisan differences and rally behind Governor Lawal to consolidate on his achievements.
He also called for the zoning of the 2027 governorship ticket to Zamfara Central Senatorial District, where Lawal hails from, arguing that it would promote justice and regional balance.
“As the first governor from Zamfara Central since 1999, he deserves the opportunity to complete two terms. I endorse his continuity for the sake of peace and development,” he declared.
Zamfara on path to greatness
Shinkafi concluded by noting that improved security, revived farming and education, and the provision of essential services under Governor Lawal’s administration have placed Zamfara on a promising path.
“The people of Zamfara finally have a leader who understands their needs and is delivering real change,” he said.
