A Nigerian woman living in Florida has sparked a conversation online after naming specific churches in the United States that provide free meals and employment assistance to their members, while questioning why Nigerian congregations do not do the same.
The X user, identified as PrettyMfon, shared her observations in a lengthy post that drew widespread attention.

She described how Fulford Methodist Church in North Miami Beach, Florida, where she worships, prepares free breakfast for members every last Sunday of the month.
She also noted that the Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale holds a community breakfast open to everyone every last Saturday of the month.
Lakewood Church's Job Support Programme
Among the churches she highlighted, Lakewood Church in Houston stood out for going further than just food.
PrettyMfon recalled attending a service there on a day when gospel artist Sinach was present, and noted that the church not only served snacks but also runs a dedicated group that helps members find employment.
"They don't only serve snacks, they have a group that helps you get jobs," she wrote.
She also mentioned a church she visited in New Jersey while travelling from Nigeria to see a friend, where food was served after the service, and Norland Methodist in Miami Gardens, which used to offer post-service meals before it closed down.
Nigerian Churches Must Do More, She Says
PrettyMfon turned her observations into a direct challenge to Nigerian churches, specifically naming the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
She said that despite many professionals, including ExxonMobil staff, paying substantial tithes at RCCG branches, member welfare remained largely unaddressed.
She also drew on her university years at the University of Uyo, where she said she personally paid school fees for other students as a campus fellowship leader, only to witness fellow leaders asking those same students to contribute money for a fellowship president's upkeep.
"People should not just go to church to worship God alone, their physical needs should be taken care of too," she wrote.
PrettyMfon was careful to note that she had always raised these concerns, even before relocating abroad, and described herself as no saint but someone who believes the church has a responsibility to its members beyond the spiritual.
