Denmark has identified one category of foreigners who will be temporarily barred from applying for a permanent residence permit, according to information published on the country's official immigration portal.

Specifically, any foreign national who has received a prison sentence of less than six months, or a suspended prison sentence, will be considered temporarily ineligible for permanent residency in Denmark.

The rule does not permanently close the door for affected individuals. The wording "temporarily ineligible" indicates that those who fall into this category may still qualify for permanent residence at a later point, once the disqualifying period has elapsed.

However, the portal does not specify the exact duration of the temporary ineligibility, meaning applicants in this situation would need to seek further guidance directly from the Danish Immigration Service.

The condition forms part of a broader set of requirements that foreigners must satisfy before being granted the right to remain in Denmark permanently. Meeting this criminal record standard sits alongside other criteria related to factors such as language proficiency, employment, and self-sufficiency.
