Lagos State University Graduate Pursuing Master’s Degree Begs for Job One Year after Bsc Graduation

  • An X user identified as @rufai_eko, a Lagos State University (LASU) graduate, admitted he enrolled for a master's degree mainly to have something to say when people ask what he is doing
  • The young man revealed he has spent a full year without employment after completing his undergraduate studies at LASU in 2025
  • His candid tweet quickly gained traction on X, with several users offering career and scholarship advice in the comments

A Lagos State University graduate has sparked widespread conversation online after openly admitting that one year after completing his first degree, he still has no job and enrolled for a postgraduate programme primarily to dodge the uncomfortable question of what he is doing with his life.

The X user, who goes by the handle @rufai_eko, posted his honest confession on 19 August 2026, writing:

"One year. No job. Nothing. I enrolled for a Master's degree just to have something to say when people ask what I'm doing with my life. I need a job, please. I know someone on this app knows someone. Let's make something happen."

LASU graduate opens up about life after BSc

What gave the post extra texture was that it came attached to a throwback tweet from 2025, in which @rufai_eko had marked his LASU graduation with a tongue-in-cheek post listing a string of fictional accolades, including being named Best Graduating Student in History and International Studies, Best Graduating Student in the Faculty of Arts, and Overall Best Graduating Student at Lagos State University, before humorously adding "All of these started as a dream and ended as a dream" and promising to go harder with his MSc.

The contrast between the cheerful, self-deprecating tone of his graduation post and the raw frustration of his 2026 update is what caught people's attention.

The reality of life after university, including the months of waiting, applying, and explaining yourself to relatives, resonated with thousands of young Nigerians navigating the same stretch.
