Many people regard medicine as one of the most difficult courses to study in the world, but Chisom did not just do well; she aced all the courses she took.
After her graduation, she shared her success story on social media, indicating that she graduated with distinction in ten subjects. Because of her performance, she left the school as the overall best graduating student.
Challenges Chisom faced at Babcock University
She told Legit.ng in an interview that it was never an easy affair, but she persevered until she overcame every challenge.
She said:
"Honestly, some people thought medical school for me was easy but it wasn’t. I struggled with finances, paying fees was not very easy, but I thank God for provision because one way or another He provided and it was sorted, I struggled with imposter syndrome, I never felt like I was good enough, I struggled with personal confidence in my abilities."
Initially, Chisom gained admission to study medicine at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka but she opted to go to a private school.
Why Chisom chose Babcock University
She said Babcock University offered her a more serene environment to study and become her best self.
She told Legit.ng:
"Well, I got admission to do medicine as well in a public school that is UNN but I decided to go private because I didn’t want strikes simple.
"Babcock University gave a decent enough environment for learning, we didn’t have it easy as some might think, I was taught by very competent consultants who trained at most of these foremost schools, and I maximised my opportunity.
"I asked as much questions as I wanted, I got a mentor easily because it was private school and I did my best."
According to Chisom, she studied medicine because she wanted to impact people's health positively.
She also said she struggled with her health when she was a child and it made her realise how important a doctor could be.
She noted:
" I studied medicine because I wanted to be influential in people’s lives, I wanted to be part of their journeys. I struggled with my health as a child and I know how instrumental my doctor was in my journey, and I wanted to do the same for someone else.
"Medical school was interesting, it helped me become disciplined, it groomed my work ethic, I learnt to work with people, I dabbled into politics a bit and I did grow there, it helped me build some confidence, I became more appreciative of health, health is really and privilege and it should be cherished."
When asked how she was able to pass all her courses with distinction, Chisom said she just read very well and put in her best.
Her words:
"I achieved distinctions by not really thinking into the distinctions. Let me explain, the most important thing for me in medical school was to gain knowledge so I can be the best and safest doctor for myself and for my patients because no patient is going to ask me if I got distinctions or not, so that meant I had to read properl.,
"I answered the questions like I was the doctor and the patient was right in front of me and God rewarded me with distinctions."
What Chisom aims to become in the future after leaving Babcock University
Chisom, who described herself as an ambitious person, said she aims to become a top surgeon.
She also said she wants to be involved in healthcare policy formulation in the future.
Her words:
"I am aiming to be a surgeon in the nearest future, I also have love for medical research and I want to be involved in policy and protocol development in healthcare.
