According to the respected man of God, the preacher in reference had said, 'there is no leadership without a successor.'
The said preacher had appeared to subtly call for his retirement, a move the Pastor Kumuyi said was "too much" since only God can choose his successor.
He was quoted as saying:
“The brother who taught the other Tuesday kept saying there is no leadership without a successor. He said it twice. I felt that was too much, and your father in the Lord is still here. And if God wants to give a successor, he at his own time.”
The story was shared online by Church Times Nigeria, which said Pastor Kumuyi made the comments during a Tuesday Bible study. The story was also reported by Punch Newspapers.
According to Church Times Nigeria, Pastor Kumuyi insisted that no one can put undue pressure on him or control him.
His words, per Church Times Nigeria:
“You are not going to fight your shepherd, your pilot. I reject any member of the church, whether you are a worker, choir member, or security person, who tries to control me. I won’t even take that from my wife because I am the head of the home, and if she tries to control me, she knows that I have been preaching before I married the first wife and before I met her after the first one died. I stand where I stand and nobody will put me under."
He then asked the church members if they were tired of him, and also told them not to kill his conviction.
He said:
“Are you tired of me? Don’t try to kill my conviction. It will only make me resist you so that when you get to the other side, you won’t say I did not tell you. I will keep on telling you that under your resistance until I go”
