Matawalle's role in the 2023 campaign
The former governor is no stranger to APC campaign structures. During the 2023 general elections, he served as Zonal Coordinator for the North-West on the APC Presidential Campaign Council, working across all seven states in the zone to deliver votes for President Bola Tinubu.
He described that assignment as "one of the most important chapters of my political career."
Since that election, Matawalle has remained publicly active in support of the Tinubu administration. He said he founded the Tinubu Again Movement, a nationwide platform created to publicise the achievements, policies and programmes of the Renewed Hope Administration across Nigeria.
Pledging loyalty for 2027
In his acceptance statement, Matawalle said he would work closely with the Director-General and all other members of the Presidential Campaign Council, approaching the assignment "in a spirit of unity and professionalism."
"I will give this assignment my very best and remain focused on the collective objective of securing victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the All Progressives Congress in 2027," he said.
He added that the experience gained from the 2023 campaign, as well as relationships built within the party over the years, had positioned him for the demands of his new role on the Security and Intelligence Standing Committee.
Matawalle also thanked the APC leadership for the confidence placed in him, saying he accepted the appointment "with humility, gratitude and a deep sense of duty," and pledged his loyalty and diligence to the assignment.
