20-Year-Old Miner Found Dead With Machete Wounds in Barkin Ladi, Plateau State

A 20-year-old miner has been found dead along the Gana Ropp-Barkin Ladi road in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, with his body bearing machete wounds.

According to Dailytrust, the deceased, Abdulmuminu Muhammad, had gone out for a mining activity on August 22 and did not return.

His relatives grew increasingly worried as hours passed without any sign of him and launched a search. By around noon on August 23, they found his body dumped along the road.

Grandfather speaks on the death

Muhammad's grandfather, Imam Muhammed Abdullahi, confirmed the killing and expressed deep anguish over the manner in which his grandson died.

"I am the grandfather of the deceased. Yesterday, his relatives did not see him up to the evening, and they began to look for his whereabouts because everyone was worried. Around 12 p.m., they found him dead along the Gana Ropp-Barki Ladi Road. We are disturbed by what happened to him because the nature of the killing is barbaric and inhumane. He was killed and macheted. The killing has really touched us," he said.

Danjuma Ibrahim, a youth leader in the area, also confirmed the incident on Sunday.

Funeral held in Barkin Ladi

Muhammad was buried on Sunday morning following a funeral prayer held in Barkin Ladi town. Hundreds of sympathisers attended the service.

Captain Polycarp Oteh, the spokesman for Operation Enduring Peace in Plateau State, had not responded to an inquiry about the incident at the time of reporting.

Legit.ng earlier reported that three miners were shot dead along the GSS Daffo Road in Bokkos local government area of Plateau State. Residents described the Thursday evening, July 30, 2026, incident as another targeted attack on workers returning from a mining site.

The attack happened around 7:15 p.m. as the victims made their way back from a mining site at Fubok in Daffo District.
