Mercy Johnson-Okojie, daughter unveiled as ambassadors of menstrual health initiative

Nollywood actress and philanthropist Mercy Johnson-Okojie and her daughter, Purity Okojie, have been unveiled as co-brand ambassadors for Girls Tag, a menstrual health initiative aimed at promoting hygiene, confidence and wellness among Nigerian girls.

Girls Tag, described as Nigeria’s first all-in-one period care kit, was introduced to address longstanding gaps in menstrual education and access to quality hygiene products for young girls, particularly those navigating puberty.

Initiative targets stigma and poor menstrual education

For years, limited awareness and inadequate menstrual resources have exposed many Nigerian girls to health risks, social stigma and disruptions to their education. The Girls Tag initiative seeks to tackle these challenges by combining menstrual hygiene products with age-appropriate health education.

The project positions menstrual health as a core component of overall wellbeing, rather than a taboo subject, while encouraging open conversations within families and schools.

Mercy Johnson-Okojie explains personal motivation

Speaking on her involvement, Mercy Johnson-Okojie said the initiative aligns with her role as a mother and advocate for girls’ wellbeing.

“As a mother, I want my daughter to step into womanhood without fear or embarrassment. Girls Tag is doing exactly that—helping families replace shame with pride and confusion with confidence,” she said.

Education central to Girls Tag kit

A key feature of the kit is Youberty, a puberty guide authored by Mercy Johnson-Okojie for boys and girls aged 10 to 13. The book addresses physical and emotional changes associated with puberty, offering guidance that encourages healthy habits and informed choices.

By integrating education into the product, Girls Tag aims to empower children with knowledge alongside practical menstrual care.

Kit designed to promote hygiene and dignity

The Girls Tag period care kit includes sanitary pads in different sizes, overnight peri0d pants, p@nty liners, disposable waste bags and a discreet carrying pouch. The items are designed to support hygiene, reduce infection risks and help girls manage menstruati0n with comfort and dignity.

Representatives of iBlend Services, the regional agency for Girls Tag, said the choice of Mercy Johnson-Okojie and Purity reflects the initiative’s family-centred approach to health promotion.

According to Eddie Madaki and Oche Ejiga, the ambassadors’ shared journey resonates with many Nigerian households and reinforces the campaign’s focus on wellness rather than product marketing alone.
