"Disgusting Lyrics": Powerful Monarch Blasts Popular Musician Who Performed at Olubadan coronation

The Olu of Kemta Orile in Odeda Local Government of Ogun state, Oba Adetokunbo Tejuosho, has categorically condemned popular Fuji musician, Taye Currency, for what he referred to as "disgusting and uncultured lyrics" advanced at the installation of Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja as 44th Olubadan of Ibadan on Friday, September 26.

In a video circulating online, the musician was heard singing in Yoruba: “Were la fi n wo were”, which translates as “we cure madness with madness.”
The clip has triggered widespread backlash across social media platforms.
Monarch condemns “careless entertainment”
In a statement made on Saturday, September 27, Oba Tejuosho reiterated that Taye Currency did not show the ancient Yoruba tradition sufficient respect, The Punch wrote.
"The throne of our forefathers is no jesting stage, nor coronation of a great monarch a matter of idle merriment," he said.
Monarch: Kingship must be treated with reverence
The monarch stressed that coronations are sacred, momentous occasions that demand honour and dignity, The Cable reported.
"Holy is kingship, veiled in honour and protected by convention. It requires awe, dignity, honour, class and the utmost respect of everyone who stands before it. To sing on such lines in the presence of the Crown, and indeed in the presence of the world, was classless and out of place," he said.
Monarch calls for better artiste selection
Oba Tejuosho also questioned the organisers’ choice of performer, pointing out the presence of dignitaries including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Such conduct and lines of music were unfit and unacceptable in the presence of the entire world. Music in the royal court is not mere noise, but an offering of homage to history, culture, and authority,” he said.
He further suggested that respected artistes such as King Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obey or Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1 De Ultimate), among others would have been more befitting for an event of such magnitude.
“The sanctity of the crown remains untouchable. Those who approach it must do so with wisdom, restraint, and profound respect,” the monarch concluded.
Ex-governor Ladoja crowned as new Olubadan
Legit.ng earlier reported that the former governor had earlier received the traditional Akoko leaf at the Labosinde Compound, Oja’ba, Ibadan. Governor Seyi Makinde is expected to present the staff and instruments of office to the new monarch at the historic Mapo Hall.
Governor Seyi Makinde had earlier cut short his annual leave so that he could attend the coronation of Oba Ladoja in person. Recall that the demise of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who passed on to the ancestors on Monday, July 7, 2025, paved the way for Ladoja to become the Olubadan-designate.
