The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued its daily weather outlook for Tuesday, 23rd September 2025, forecasting widespread thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across the country.
The advisory, released on Monday, 22nd September, highlights varying weather conditions expected to affect the northern, central, and southern regions throughout the day.

Northern Nigeria weather: Thunderstorms and cloudy skies
NiMet reported that the morning hours in parts of Kebbi, Taraba, and Adamawa States were likely to experience isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rains. Other northern areas were expected to remain predominantly cloudy.
By afternoon and evening, the agency anticipated isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall over several northern states, including Adamawa, Bauchi, Kaduna, Taraba, Gombe, Kano, Jigawa, Southern Borno, and Yobe. These conditions could lead to temporary disruptions in outdoor activities, NiMet warned.

Central Nigeria weather: Cloudy morning and rainy afternoon
In the central region, NiMet predicted a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine during the morning. Light rains and thunderstorms were expected over parts of Kogi, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa, Kwara, and Niger States.
Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall were forecast to affect Benue, Plateau, Kogi, the FCT, Nasarawa, Kwara, and Niger States. The agency advised residents and motorists to remain cautious, particularly in areas prone to flooding and reduced visibility.
Southern Nigeria weather: Rainfall across coastal and inland states
Southern states were expected to begin the day under cloudy skies, with light rains likely over parts of Ebonyi, Abia, Imo, Oyo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River States.
Thunderstorms with moderate rainfall were forecast for the afternoon and evening across a broader swathe of the region. Affected states include Imo, Abia, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Bayelsa, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River. NiMet urged residents in flood-prone areas to take precautionary measures and for local authorities to remain vigilant.

NiMet Advisory: Safety measures during rainfall
NiMet cautioned that “thunderstorms may cause temporary disruption of outdoor activities.” The agency also advised motorists to “drive cautiously during rainfall due to reduced visibility and slippery roads.”
Residents in flood-prone zones were encouraged to take preventive steps, while emergency services and stakeholders were urged to stay alert.

NIMET releases 2025 climate prediction
Legit.ng earlier reported that the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo SAN, unveiled the 2025 Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP) by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) to the public on Tuesday, 4th February 2025.
Themed ‘The Role of Early Warnings towards a Climate Resilient Aviation Industry for Sustainable Socio-Economic Development’, the SCP document predicts significant rainfall events at the beginning of 2025, with these rains likely to precede the onset.
The onset of rain was predicted to be delayed over the northern and central states of Plateau, as well as parts of Kaduna, Niger, Benue, Nasarawa, Taraba, Adamawa, and Kwara.
