Man Who Told His Wife "I’m Off To a Party" Found Dead in Badagry Fish Pond

Otherwise peaceful Bovita Central estate in Badagry, Lagos state, was thrown into grief after the gruesome killing of a 28-year-old craftsman, Ayienugba Ezekiel. His lifeless body was discovered in a secret fish pond with his hands mangled behind his back.

The bad news swept like wildfire on Saturday, 13 September, evening, leaving shock, terror, and dismay in its aftermath.

Badagry widow cries out: My world has been shattered

Vanguard having paid a visit to the family home, which was humble, mournfulness hung in the air. Ezekiel's wife, Abiola, who was 24 years old, clutching their toddler, spoke between tears.

"My husband ventured out on Saturday morning, to watch football in the neighborhood. After that, I phoned him since we had run out of gas when I was cooking.
He returned, removed the cylinder, and got it filled up, and returned again. He proceeded to the pig farm to feed his pigs," she added.

Badagry widow narrates the last meal with husband

Her voice trembled as she relived their last meal together:

“That evening, we ate before he told me, around 6 p.m., that he was going to a birthday party. When he didn’t return by 9 p.m., I started calling, but his phone was switched off. I became worried because he normally didn’t stay out late.”

Fighting back sobs, she described the chilling moment she heard the news:

"My world has been shattered."

Her brother, Razak, who was the first to pull Ezekiel out of the pond, described the horrific discovery.

"Even after entering the pond, the water was only up to my waist. I continued looking around with my hands until we felt him. He was kneeling down and his hands were tied. We pulled him out, took pictures, and took him to the Badagry General Hospital. The doctor confirmed him dead," he said.

Razak told them why the family maintained that it was murder.

"What made us believe that he did not drown was when we pressed his tummy, water didn't come out. He was murdered first before being thrown there."

The family reported the case at the police station afterwards and dumped his body at the mortuary around 2 a.m, Leadership reported.

Lagos State Command of the Police, via the Badagry Division, confirmed that an investigation was underway.

Witnesses and family members were said to have had statements taken from them, and efforts are being made to locate those who were present at the party.

In the meantime, fear clings to Bovita as the residents of the village grapple with the dark fact of the massacre. Ezekiel, a jovial and dependable man, is left behind with a young widow and toddler whose future is now tainted by tragedy.

Man kills youth leader with machete during fight

Previously, Legit.ng reported that 37-year-old Joseph Eren had been arrested for allegedly killing his neighbour with a machete during a violent altercation in the Ibesikpo local government area of Akwa Ibom state.

The state public relations officer, Timfon John, said the tragic incident occurred during a heated argument with his neighbour, Ekopimo Moses, who is a youth leader, on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at about 6 pm.
