Reps Deputy Spokesman Hails Speaker, Mentions What Nigerians Should Expect as House Resumes Plenary

Abuja, FCT - Deputy spokesperson of the House of Representatives Philip Agbese on Thursday, September 18, praised Speaker Tajudeen Abbas for "transformative leadership that has boosted the productivity and global profile of the 10th National Assembly."
Agbese said Abbas, who assumed the speakership in June 2023, has turned the Green Chamber into “a powerhouse of progress,” combining transparency, bill sponsorship and stakeholder engagement.

“Rt. Hon. Abbas, Ph.D., GCON has transformed the House into a dynamic institution where legislative innovation meets citizens’ needs,” Agbese said in a statement released ahead of the resumption of plenary on Tuesday, September 23.
Abbas raising Nigeria’s voice abroad - Agbese
According to Agbese, Abbas’ tenure has amplified Nigeria’s influence in international parliamentary forums.
“Our voices now count in the global lawmaking arena thanks to his strategic diplomacy,” he said.
Agbese added that members of the 10th House have taken part in high-level sessions of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Commonwealth Parliamentary Union (CPU), Pan-African Parliament (PAP) and ECOWAS Parliament, helping shape agendas on debt sustainability, gender equity and democratic governance.
He also cited the 11th Annual Conference and General Assembly of the West Africa Association of Public Accounts Committees (WAAPAC), hosted at the National Assembly in Abuja, as evidence of the Speaker’s leadership.
“Unlike the past, we’re now the hosts setting the agenda on debt and accountability,” the lawmaker said.
The deputy spokesperson also highlighted Abbas’s inclusive approach.
“He’s not just a presiding officer; he’s a mentor who listens to every member, big or small. He remembers your name and your constituency’s challenges, uniting us across parties while pushing us to excel on the world stage," he said.
Nigerians should expect more wins - Agbese
Agbese said the energy and focus Abbas brings to plenary sessions will continue to drive legislative priorities when lawmakers reconvene next week.
“Resuming plenary under him means more wins for Nigerians, more jobs, more equity, more hope,” he said, urging Nigerians to support the Speaker and the 10th House.

Reps declare support for Speaker Abbas
In a similar development, -the House of Representatives members have in the 10th Assembly declared that they will continue to firmly defend the mandate of the Speaker, Tajudeen.
Speaking in a statement cited by Legit.ng, on Monday, September 8, the deputy spokesperson, Agbese, noted that this is because of his all-inclusive and respectful style of leadership.
Agbese described Abbas as “a Speaker for all,” noting that since emerging leader of the Green Chamber, he has carried every one of the 359 other lawmakers along in decision-making and legislative engagements. According to him, the Speaker’s leadership over the last two years has promoted harmony and reduced friction among lawmakers, as members feel a sense of belonging and dignity.
