Just In: NECO Announces Number of Schools and States Involved in Examination Malpractice
- NECO announced the number of schools in 13 states that were implicated in whole-school cheating during the 2025 SSCE

Minna, Niger state - The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced that 38 schools across 13 states were implicated in whole-school cheating during the conduct of the 2025 Internal Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
Recall that NECO officially released the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE internal), 54 days after the final paper was written.

The announcement was made by NECO Registrar, Professor Ibrahim Wushishi, during a press briefing held in Minna, Niger state, on Wednesday, September 17.
According to Professor Wushishi, a total of 1,358,339 candidates sat for the June/July SSCE internal examination. Of these, 818,492 candidates—representing 60.26 per cent, achieved five credits and above, including Mathematics and English Language.
He further disclosed that 1,144,496 candidates, or 84.26 per cent, secured five credits and above irrespective of the two core subjects.
NECO: Supervisors caught in malpractice deals to face sanctions
Speaking at the release of the results on Wednesday, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NECO, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, disclosed that nine supervisors had been recommended for blacklisting, Vanguard reported.
According to him, the supervisors were found guilty of “aiding and abetting, lateness, unruly behaviour, assault and insubordination” during the conduct of the examination.
NECO invites nabbed schools for discussions
Professor Wushishi revealed that the schools involved in the malpractice have been summoned to appear before the Council.
He explained that discussions will be held before appropriate sanctions are applied.
“The Council is committed to upholding the integrity of our examinations. Those found wanting will face necessary disciplinary measures,” he stated.

Despite the malpractice cases, the Registrar described the 2025 Internal SSCE as “one of the most successful in recent years.”
He noted that the results were being released just 54 days after the last paper was written, Nation reported.
“This timely release is a demonstration of our commitment to efficiency and transparency,” he said.
NECO speaks on performance statistics
Providing a breakdown of performance, Professor Wushishi disclosed that 60.26 per cent of the candidates obtained five Credits and above in all subjects, including Mathematics and English Language.
He further stated that 84.26 per cent of candidates secured five Credits and above in all subjects, irrespective of Mathematics and English.
