Jubilation as Tinubu Approves Establishment of New Court of Appeal, Location Emerges

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun announced that the President Bola Tinubu-led federal government has approved the establishment of the Court of Appeal in the state.
The governor announced the development in a social media post on Monday, September 15, adding that the appellate court will be established in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Governor Abiodun expressed the confidence that the development would bring "quicker dispensation of justice" for the people of the state and that it would relieve the burden of loads on the shoulders of the "Ibadan Division" of the court and "strengthen the foundation of fairness in our dear state."
Abiodun promises to uphold justice
Abiodun noted that justice remains the "bedrock of every prosperous society" and promised that his administration would continue to give adequate support to the judiciary.
The governor also pledged to prioritise the welfare of judicial officers and enhance their efficiency with adequate provisions.
He vowed to uphold the integrity of the legal system, defend the judiciary's independence and "entrench democratic ideals" for the development and growth of the state.
His statement reads in part:
"We commend the Chief Judge and all judicial officers for their tireless reforms and dedication in keeping Ogun State a beacon of the legal profession."

Reactions trail new Court of Appeal's creation
The governor's statement has generated some reactions from some Nigerians. Below are some of the reactions:
AbdulRazaq Oshogbade commended the development and called for the creation of a Sharia Court:
"Good development. Anticipating! The Sharia court and the Sharia court of appeal are to ensure the adjudication of Islamic Personal status as enshrined under the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It's achievable, Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun."
Oyetunde also commended the move:
"Brilliant! A historic milestone for Ogun State! With the Court of Appeal now established, justice is brought nearer to the people. Thank you, my Super Governor!"
Olufemi Dokunmu welcomed the development:
"Nice one. This is a very great welcome development in this sector, especially for a State that has a record of producing highly distinguished Lawyers and Judges of international repute for Nigeria."
Olufemi Adebanjo wrote:
"This is indeed a noble accomplishment, especially as it regards proximity to quick dispensation of justice. Congratulations to the government of Ogun State and the State Judiciary."
Ayotomiwa prayed:
"May Ogun State continue to prosper under the leadership of our dear Governor Dapo Abiodun."

APC suspends Ogun senator
Legit.ng earlier reported that the APC in Ogun announced the suspension of Gbenga Daniel, the senator representing Ogun East and former governor of the state.
Nuberu Olufemi, the APC spokesperson in the state, disclosed the development in a statement, adding that Daniel was suspended along with Hon. Kunle Folarin.
The APC explained that Daniel and Folarin were suspended because they failed to appear before the disciplinary committee and respond to anti-party allegations levelled against them.
