The Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation has announced that it has begun the process of appointing five permanent secretaries, following the approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

5 new appointments: Tinubu grants approval
The positions include two vacancies created by the recent retirement of Permanent Secretaries from Imo state and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and three zonal vacancies for North-Central, North-East and South-East, arising from the creation of new ministries.

The Head of Civil Service, Mrs Didi Walson-Jack, confirmed this in a statement issued on Sunday, September 14, by the Director, Information and Public Relations, Mrs Eno Olotu.
According to the statement, the process was designed to ensure transparency, credibility and merit in line with the government’s commitment to good governance.

Eligibility: Only qualified officers on grade level 17
It was disclosed that only qualified officers on Grade Level 17 who have spent at least two years on the grade and have been cleared by their Permanent Secretaries as not facing disciplinary action are eligible.
The memo further outlined that candidates must:
- Be verified on the IPPIS portal as confirmed staff members of the Federal Government.
- Have served as directors for at least two years.
- Not be due for retirement on or before December 31, 2026.
- Provide proof of indigeneship of the state where the vacancy exists.
As reported by The Punch on Monday, September 15, she said the written examination, the next stage of the process, will be held on September 15 at a federal government facility, while successful candidates will proceed to an ICT proficiency test on September 17.
She added that the final stage, an oral interview, will be held on September 19.
Walson-Jack said:
“Anti-corruption agencies will also observe the process. The final recommendations will be submitted to the president for approval.”
2027: FG bans civil servants from playing from politics
In another related development, Legit.ng reported that President Bola Tinubu warned his appointees and civil servants to desist from engaging in political activities.
As the 2027 general elections approach, the federal government explained what will happen to appointees who fail to be neutral under Tinubu's watch.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoS), Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, conveyed the president's message in a statement.
