Just In: Tears as High-ranking Zazzau Emirate Titleholder Dies in Kaduna

Legit.ng reports that Zazzau emirate in Kaduna state announced Pate's passing on Thursday, September 11, via the official X (formerly Twitter) handle of Mallam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, the emir.

Zazzau emirate is a historically significant Hausa kingdom and one of Nigeria's largest traditional emirates. The areas under the Zazzau emirate include the local government areas (LGAs) of Zaria, Sabon Gari, Giwa, Kudan, Makarfi, Ikara, Kubau, Soba, Igabi, Kauru, Kaduna North, and Kaduna South.

Zazzau's Aminu Pate dies

The statement disclosed that Pate died on Wednesday night, September 10, at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Kaduna state, after an illness.

Zazzau emirate said:

"With deep sorrow and total submission to the will of Allah (SWT), the Zazzau Emirate announces the passing of Wamban Dawakin Zazzau, Alhaji Aminu Pate."

The emirate prayed to God to forgive the deceased's shortcomings, grant him paradise, and give his family the fortitude to bear the loss.

The late Pate was a retired director with the Kaduna ministry of local government, where he served in various local government councils across the state.

He is survived by his wives, children, and grandchildren.

Legit.ng understands that Pate has been buried at the Emir’s Palace, Zaria, in accordance with Islamic rites.

Nuhu Sada, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate for member Kaduna state house of assembly, representing Zaria Kewaye constituency in the 2025 bye-election, mourned Pate.

He wrote on his known X page:

"Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Raji’un.
"My deepest condolences to the family of Wamban Dawakin Zazzau, Alh. Aminu Pate, and to the entire @Zazzau_Emirate. May Allah forgive him, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus & give us all the strength to bear this loss. Ameen."

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas bereaved

Meanwhile, Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the house of representatives, is said to be a younger brother of late Pate.

Vanguard noted the relationship between Abbas and the deceased traditional leader.
