Navy Officer Jailed Over Sexual Relationship With Colleague’s Wife
- A serving officer (a Lieutenant) has been sentenced to three years’ imprisonment over a sexual relationship with a colleague’s wife

FCT, Abuja - The Nigerian Navy (NN) has dismissed and sentenced a serving officer (a Lieutenant) to three years’ imprisonment over a sexual relationship with a colleague’s wife.
The punishment was announced following the confirmation of the outcome of a Special Court Martial (SCM) by Naval Headquarters, Abuja.

As reported by Vanguard, sources who confirmed the dismissal and punishment said:
“The SCM, at the conclusion of its proceedings, found the dismissed Officer guilty as charged, hence the sentence of three years imprisonment and Dismissal from the Nigerian Navy which took effect from November 23, 2024”.
The sources added that the award of punishment and dismissal was implemented as directed at the Nigerian Navy Institute of Technology (NNIT), Parade Ground, Sapele, on Friday, August 29, 2025.
Four-count charges against dismissed Navy officer
The SCM court-martialed the dismissed officer on four-count charges.
- Sexual relations with a Service Personnel’s wife, contrary to section 79 of the AFA CAP A20 LFN 2004;
- Scandalous conduct of an officer contrary to section 91 of the AFA CAP A20 LFN 2004
- Deceiving a witness contrary to section 122 of the Criminal Code Act, CAP C380, Persuant to Section 114 of the AFA CAP A20 LFN 2004
- Deceiving a witness contrary to section 122 of the Criminal Code Act CAP C380, Persuant to Section 114 of the AFA CAP A20 LFN 2004.
According to the sources, the legal review of the report of the trial proceedings showed that the accused was properly arraigned and due process was complied with during the trial.
The Navy Board upheld the conclusion of imprisonment and dismissal from the Navy against the Lieutenant.
Air Force officer dismissed for defiling 14-year-old IDP
An officer of the Nigerian Air Force identified as Martins Owerem was convicted and dismissed for defiling a 14-year-old internally displaced person in Maiduguri, Borno state capital.
Owerem, who was court-martialed, was said to have defiled the girl when he was an officer in charge of the special force battalion, near Bakassi IDP camp, in 2018.
The prosecution counsel, Aminu Mairuwa, said that while the convict was on patrol duty on September 29, 2018, at Kawon Jiya community in the outskirts of Maiduguri, he arrested some girls who were collecting firewood, on the pretext that they crossed a restricted area.
Nigerian court sentences dismissed SARS officer to death
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that a state high court in Benin City, Edo state, delivered its ruling on the killing of a car dealer.
The court disclosed why a dismissed police constable, Joseph Omotosho, was found guilty of murder.
The accused was said to have committed the offence in 2015.
