Breaking: 6 Injured in Abuja-Kaduna Train Derailment As NSIB Begins Probe

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has said that it has commenced an investigation into the derailment involving a Kaduna-bound train service, which occurred on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, between Kubwa Station in Abuja and Asham Station.

The NSIB also confirmed that six persons were injured in the incident with no recorded fatalities.
Speaking on the incident, the director-general of NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., said:
“We deeply sympathise with all who sustained injuries. The Bureau has deployed investigators to the site to ensure the root cause of this derailment is uncovered. Our commitment is to ensure safer rail transport for Nigerians through a transparent and independent investigation.”
Director, public affairs and family assistance, NSIB, Mrs Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, further said:
“A go-team has been deployed to the site to gather evidence, engage relevant stakeholders, and commence investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
“The Bureau sympathises with those injured and extends its support to all passengers affected. The investigation will focus on identifying the direct and underlying factors that led to the derailment, with the aim of issuing safety recommendations to prevent a recurrence.”

Meanwhile, Bayo Onanuga, presidential aide to President Bola Tinubu via X also confirmed the derailment.
They assured passengers and the public that safety remained the federal government’s top priority.
Lives lost in train derail in Germany
Recall that tragedy struck as a train carrying about 100 passengers derailed in southwestern Germany on Sunday, July 27, 2025.
It was gathered that at least two train carriages derailed in a wooded area near the town of Riedlingen in Baden-Württemberg state.
Firefighters and emergency services stormed the crash scene while trying to gain access to the passengers.
Warri-Itakpe train derailment: Stranded passengers share ordeals
In a similar development, Legit.ng reported that the Warri-Itakpe train broke down mid-journey in a remote forest in Kogi state on April 10, leaving passengers stranded for hours.
With no immediate help in sight, some passengers, including the elderly, embarked on a grueling three-hour trek through the forest to seek help.
Survivors described the ordeal as terrifying and called on the government to urgently improve rail infrastructure and ensure passenger safety.
