Advice for applicants before shortlisting

In a notice addressed to prospective fire officers, the CDCFIB advised:

“Eat well—hunger is not part of the training syllabus. Take care of your health; we need fit firefighters, not fainting champions. Sleep adequately—counting fire trucks is better than counting sheep.

"Exercise moderately—your potbelly won’t fit inside bunker gear. Stay calm—the shortlist is coming; don’t burn yourself out before the fire does. The fire doesn’t wait for the unfit, so prepare well!” the notice concluded.

The humorous yet practical guidance underscores the importance of fitness, mental readiness, and overall well-being for all candidates.

FG extends recruitment date

Recall that the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) also extended the application deadline for its ongoing 2025 paramilitary recruitment exercise.

The recruitment portal, originally scheduled to close on Monday, August 4, 2025, will now remain open until Monday, 11th August 2025.

Eligibility and application requirements

As initially reported by Legit.ng, the recruitment covers three categories of roles:

Officials reiterated that candidates may apply for only one of the four services to ensure a streamlined and fair selection process.

The federal government has stressed that adherence to these guidelines will improve candidates’ chances of successfully progressing to the next stage of recruitment.

FG begins workforce audit, skills gap analysis

Legit.ng earlier reported that the federal government of Nigeria confirmed plans to carry out a personnel audit and skills gap analysis of the civil service. According to several media outlets, this is at the core of plans to build a 21st-century workforce that can drive a technology driven government.

The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, disclosed this in Abuja while declaring open the strategic study tour for Heads of Civil Service of the 36 states and the FCT.

Mrs. Walson-Jack revealed that the skills gap analysis had already commenced in two states, Borno and Katsina, and would eventually be extended to other states and the FCT. She noted that it was crucial to help the government identify the skills lacking in its workforce and actively consider them in future recruitments.
