Breaking: PDP Former National Secretary is Dead as Details Emerge

A former National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sir Rex Chuma Onyeabo, has died at the age of 80.
His family confirmed the news in a statement issued on Thursday, August 14, in Enugu by his son, Dr Obiora Onyeabo.

According to the statement, the veteran politician and statesman passed away peacefully on 7 August, Vanguard reported.
“With heavy hearts but gratitude to God for a life well spent, the Onyeabo family of Enugu State announces the passing of our patriarch and statesman, Chief (Sir) Rex Chuma Onyeabo (KSM),” Dr Obiora said.
He described his late father as the Eze-Ugo I of Abuja Igbo Community, Onwa na-etili Ora I of Ugbawka, Ijele I na Akaegbe-Ugwu and Ada-Idaha of Efik Kingdom.
Onyeabo: Political legacy and service
The family noted that Chief Onyeabo was a founding member of the PDP and served as its National Secretary in 1999. He was also a member of the party’s Board of Trustees until his death.
“Chief Rex Onyeabo dedicated decades of his life to public service and political leadership. His contributions to the PDP and to Nigeria’s democratic growth remain indelible,” the statement read.
Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course, with the family requesting prayers during this period. All enquiries are to be directed to Dr Obiora Onyeabo and Mr Arinze Onyeabo, Nation reported.

An engineering graduate of Carnegie Mellon University in the United States, Onyeabo returned to Nigeria to serve in several key roles at both federal and state levels.

These included deputy chairman of the governing board of the Federal Capital Development Authority, chairman of the governing council at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, and chairman of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.
He also chaired the board of Nike Lake Resort Hotels, served as permanent secretary in the Enugu State Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport, and led the Local Government Services Commission, as well as the Information and Culture department.
Faith and community engagement
Outside politics, Chief Onyeabo was a respected businessman and community leader.
He ran several successful companies, was a member of the Noble Order of Knights of St. Mulumba, and was deeply active in the Abuja and Enugu Catholic communities.
“Sir Rex Onyeabo lived a life of service to God, community and country. We are comforted by the knowledge that his legacy will live on," his family concluded.
Former senator Musa dies
Legit.ng earlier reported that a former Nigerian senator, Ibrahim Musa, who represented Niger North Senatorial District from 2011 to 2015, has died. He passed away in Abuja on Thursday, August 7, after what was described as a brief illness.
Musa was elected under the platform of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and was known as a strong loyalist of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, Leadership reported.
