FIRS, Customs meet to accelerate integration efforts
A statement cited by Legit.ng on Tuesday, August 12, at the Corporate Headquarters of the NCS in Abuja, senior officials from key agencies gathered to review progress and chart the way forward for the NSW.
The initiative, launched in April 2024, is designed to simplify trade procedures, enhance transparency, and deliver economic benefits to Nigeria.
The Presidency has set the first quarter of 2026 as the operational take-off date, with agencies tasked to complete all system integration and readiness within that timeframe.
In attendance were Comptroller-General of Customs, Alhaji Bashir Adewale Adeniyi (MFR); Executive Chairman of FIRS, Dr Zacch Adedeji; and Director of the NSW Project, Mr Tola Fakolade, among others.
Customs chief emphasises unified trade ecosystem
Welcoming participants, CGC Adeniyi highlighted the importance of aligning all stakeholders.
“It is my pleasure to welcome the Chairman and members of his team. We are here to exchange ideas and have open discussions that will help our preparations for the National Single Window,” he said.
He added:
“Since the beginning of this administration, it has been listed among the key policies to create an environment that facilitates trade and makes the Nigerian economy more competitive. The goal is to develop a trade ecosystem, which involves integrating technology into our processes.”
FIRS pledges commitment to 2026 deadline
Dr Adedeji underlined the urgency of inter-agency cooperation.
“We are at the stage where we all need what is required for what is to be done and the help that is required to get the job done right.
“It’s high time we get involved, because now, Mr President has given us till the first quarter of 2026. I am here to support the CG and the Nigeria Customs Service to achieve the launching of the National Single Window and to seek further collaboration ahead of the first phase in March 2026.”
NSW Secretariat enters critical phase
Mr Fakolade revealed that the project had moved into the crucial development and integration phase following a year of assessments and requirement analysis.
“The Single Window serves as the central hub, linking all participating agencies, including Customs, into one unified platform. Achieving seamless integration at this stage is essential for meeting the Q1 2026 operational target, and we are here to ensure the necessary support is in place to stay on track,” he said.

When fully operational, the NSW will deliver faster cargo clearance, reduce operational costs, and minimise bureaucratic bottlenecks.
Businesses will be able to trade more competitively both locally and internationally, while consumers can expect lower prices and quicker access to goods.
The system is also projected to increase government revenue through improved compliance and reduced leakages, boost investor confidence, and create jobs across multiple sectors.
