A young couple has shared their harrowing experience after narrowly escaping an armed robbery by phone snatchers last month along Kofar Famfo Road in Kano.
The incident, which occurred around 8:00 pm, left the family traumatised but grateful to have survived unharmed.

Man narrates how he combatted thieves
The husband, Abduallahi Sani, speaking to Legit.ng correspondent in Kano recounted how the attack unfolded as they were returning from his wife’s family house with their one-year-old son.
"It was after a heavy downpour, and we were waiting for a tricycle when I overheard two men on a motorcycle speaking in coded language behind us, and I immediately felt something was wrong.”

“Before I could react, they blocked our path, and one of them jumped down with a knife,” he said.
Abdullahi explain that it was in that scary moment, the assailant pressed the knife against their baby’s neck, demanding their phones.
“He threatened to kill our son if we didn’t comply. I begged them to let our child go first, and after handing over my phone, I made sure my wife and son were at a safe distance."
Their motorcycle suddenly stopped, and that was when Abdullahi lunged at the robbers in a desperate act of bravery.
“I grabbed the hand of the one holding the knife and twisted it. I held him by the neck, collected my phone and started shouting for help.”
“It was In that struggle, I managed to cut his hand slightly with his own knife,” Abdullahi explained.
Thieves flee after incident
When the commotion startled the robber’s accomplice, he quickly intervened and helped his wounded partner escape on their motorcycle.

The couple said that they have not reported the incident to the police because they managed to escape the tragic attack.

He also noted that the road was quiet, but some people appeared when they overheard his voice shouting for help.
"We thank God we survived, but not everyone may be so lucky, because these criminals are getting bolder every day. The government should increase security measures in the area,” the wife, Amina Sule said.
Meanwhile, authorities have continued to warn residents in Kano to remain vigilant, especially at night, as cases of phone snatching, and armed robberies have been on the rise in some parts of Kano.
The Kano state police command has, in recent times, announced that it made several arrests in connection with phone robberies and thuggery in the state.
Man arrested for lewd act
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that a 24-year-old man, Shamsu Yakubu, was arrested by Kano Hisbah after a viral video showed him engaging in an obscene act with a she-goat.
The suspect claimed the act was staged to gain social media attention, though he denied actual contact with the animal.
Hisbah officials condemned the act and ordered mental and drug evaluations, warning against eroding Islamic and moral values for online fame.
