Why I dethroned Sanusi - Ganduje

After the initial reason he gave, Governor Ganduje said he took the decision to save the system and the traditional institution from abuse, a year after the dethronement.

According to Governor Ganduje, Sanusi was not the best man for the throne, alleging that the deposed emir was appointed to spite former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Jonathan had in April 2014, removed Sanusi as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) over claims by the ex-CBN governor that $49 billion was stolen by some persons under the Jonathan administration.

Sanusi: This is why Ganduje dethroned former Emir of Kano, Kwankwaso speaks

Contrary to Ganduje's claim, a former governor of Kano state, Rabiu Kwankwaso, said Sanusi was dethroned because the Kano governor was intimidated by the influence of the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Kwankwaso in a statement signed by his principal private secretary, Muhammad Inuwa Ali, stated that Sanusi was dethroned by the governor owing to his (Ganduje)'s inferiority complex.

He said that fears of high esteem and calibre alongside the influence Sanusi had as Emir made Ganduje jittery, adding that he dethroned him because of fear of the unknown. He also alleged that Ganduje harbours a pathological hatred for the Kano traditional institution, saying that was why he had to dethrone Sanusi.

Sanusi wins big in court over banishment from Kano by Ganduje

Meanwhile, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, delivered a judgement nullifying Sanusi's banishment from Kano state.

The court presided by Justice Anwuli Chikere said the banishment of Sanusi from Kano to Awe, Nasarawa state was unlawful and a violation of his fundamental human rights.

The court held that the manner in which Sanusi was forcefully removed from the palace after his dethronement and taken away by operatives of the State Security Services (SSS) was vicious.
