Dowen College Saga: Mother of Accused Student Cries Out, Says Her Son is Innocent

Lagos - The mother of one of the pupils accused of being responsible for the tragic death of a 12-year-old student of Dowen College, Lagos, Sylvester Oromoni Jr, has opened up.

Oluchi Sunday in reaction to online allegations that her son, Edward Brown was named as part of seniors who Sylvester identified before his death maintained that her son is innocent, The Sun reports.

The deceased was reported to have been assaulted by some students of the college for refusing to join a fraternity.

Oluchi in a statement made available to the press stated that Edward is a day student and has never been a boarder.

In another report by New Telegraph, she described the rumours as false, malicious and lacking any basis whatsoever. According to the mother, her son was not on the school premises at the time of the alleged incident.

Oluchi went on to note that the family has come under severe attack with insults and threats ever since her son's name was mentioned. According to her, this has caused much emotional distress and mental trauma to the family.

Police to interrogate indicted students

Lagos state police command has commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding the 12-year-old's death.

The command on Tuesday, December 7, plans to quiz the senior students of Dowen College, who were accused of bullying and torturing late Sylvester at the State Criminal Investigative Department (SCID), Panti.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that a dormitory mate of the late 12-year-old student confirmed that he was tortured to death by some senior students.

In a series of WhatsApp messages to one Tamara, the dormitory mate said six and not five seniors attacked late Sylvester.

The student whose identity was hidden said that both the principal of the school and their dorm master, one Mr. Ahmed, were aware of the attack on the late student.

Late student's father reveals when Sylvester would be laid to rest

Meanwhile, the father of the late 12-year-old student of Dowen College on Saturday, December 4, said that his son would not be laid to rest until justice is served.

Sylvester Oromoni Snr while marking his late son's posthumous birthday said no matter how long it takes, the family would keep the young boy's body until all those connected to his death are served justice.

Also praying that God keeps him (Oromoni Snr) and members of his family alive to get justice for his late son, the father said he would see to the end of the matter.
