Legendary jazz vocalist Cassandra Wilson has died at the age of 70. Her manager, Robert Torre, confirmed the news in a statement, revealing she passed away on Wednesday, 2 September 2026, at her home in Jackson, Mississippi.
Torre broke the news to WBGO, describing the moment with quiet sorrow.

"It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Cassandra Wilson, the Grammy Award-winning and legendary jazz artist," he said, noting that she "transitioned peacefully at home, surrounded by family, close friends, and her manager."
The Hinds County Coroner's Office subsequently confirmed to People magazine that Wilson died from natural causes.
