"It’s a hole that’s dug in the ground with a bit of stone over it, so whenever the day comes and I pass away, I get to go in there."
Why did Ed Sheeran dig his own grave?
He explained that he wants his daughters, Lyra Antarctica and Jupiter, to have a place to visit him after he passes away.
"People think it’s really weird and really morbid, but I’ve had friends die without wills, and no one knows what to do," he added.
The singer, who has won four Grammy Awards, decided to construct this chapel after facing challenging moments in his life, including his wife Cherry Seaborn's tumour diagnosis and the tragic death of his best friend Jamal Edwards.
Additionally, Sheeran uses the chapel to mourn the loss of loved ones, including his grandmother, for whose recent funeral he was unable to be present due to a copyright trial in New York City.
Despite its association with sadness and loss, the chapel has also witnessed happier moments, as Sheeran has hosted weddings for his friends there.
