Bayero University Kano (BUK) has expelled 57 students for their involvement in examination misconduct, following a resolution passed at the institution’s 427th Senate meeting held on 10 September 2025.

The university confirmed that the disciplinary action was taken in strict accordance with the General Examination and Academic Regulations (GEAR), which govern both undergraduate and postgraduate academic conduct.

The announcement was made public through an official statement signed by Malam Aminu Wada Kurawa, Director of the Directorate of Examinations, Admissions, and Records (DEAR).

Senate decision targets examination misconduct across faculties

According to the statement, the affected students were drawn from various faculties and departments across the university. The Senate also approved the rustication of eight students and the exoneration of two others, indicating a comprehensive review of cases related to academic dishonesty.

The university noted that the disciplinary measures were part of its commitment to upholding academic integrity and ensuring that students adhere to established standards.

“The decision was in accordance with the General Examination and Academic Regulations (GEAR) governing both undergraduate and postgraduate studies,” the statement read.

In a related development, the Senate deferred judgement on the case of one candidate, Yusuf Muhammad Sani (ENG/18/CIV/00065), pending further investigation.

The Senate Business Committee (SBC) has been tasked with conducting a detailed inquiry and is expected to report back for final consideration.

BUK wins first varsity Qur’anic recitation

Legit.ng earlier reported that a student of Bayero University Kano (BUK), Abdusamad Bello, has emerged as the overall winner of the first-ever Nigerian Universities Qur’anic Recitation Competition (NUQREC), held this week in Kano.

Organised by BUK’s Centre for Qur’anic Studies in collaboration with the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), the maiden competition gathered 54 students from 19 universities nationwide, each demonstrating advanced skills in Qur’anic memorisation and recitation.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, BUK Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sagir Adamu-Abbas praised the initiative, describing it as a platform to nurture discipline and devotion.
