Modakeke, Osun state - Governor Ademola Adelekehas has flagged off Africa’s first Artificial Intelligence University in Modakeke, Osun state
Governor Adeleke laid the foundation Curators University along the Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba Joseph Toriola, on Friday, Aigist 15, 2025.
The PDP governor said the proposed institution is in tandem with his five-point agenda for the state especially to boost education and youth empowerment.
Curators University is expected to offer diverse courses in Artificial Intelligence relating to Machine Learning Specialisation, Computer Hardware Engineering, Data Analytics and Database Administration, Arbitration and conflict resolution, 3D printing and polymer science among other disciplines.
As reported by The Nation, the Governor was represented by Commissioner for Education, Hon. Dipo Eluwole.
“The establishment of this university here in Modakeke is a milestone achievement, which aligns with our drive to boost the educational sector. I charge you to make sure that this institution is one of the best universities in Nigeria both in academic and culture.”
The Founder of Curators University, Olusola Amusan, highlighted the needs for Public-Private Partnership in promotion tertiary education and national development.
“We aim to support the country through this institution and also to boost the economy of Osun State especially Modakeke. This institution if government can partner with us, it will further enable our youths to access education in area of AI that we will be providing here.”
Nigerian researcher invents AI tool to identify bandits
Recall that the Nigerian government may soon heave a sigh of relief concerning its fight against terrorists disturbing the peace of the people.
This is because a young Nigerian based in the United Kingdom, Yunusa Jibrin, invented an AI tool that would aid the identification of bandits.
Yunusa Jibrin noted that if the government adopted his findings, it would go a long way to winning the war on terrorism in Nigeria.
'AI not replacement for African knowledge'
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Taiwo Afisi, deputy vice-chancellor (academics) of Lagos State University (LASU), said artificial intelligence (AI) must be grounded in African values and indigenous knowledge to serve the continent meaningfully.
Afisi spoke while delivering LASU’s 108th inaugural lecture titled “The Oracle and the Open Society: Rethinking the Evolution of Authority and the Pursuit of Epistemic Justice in African Philosophical Thought”
During the lecture held at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, Ojo campus, Afisi said Africa must move beyond simply acquiring information to embracing ethical, historical awareness, and culturally-anchored wisdom.
