Data Shows 10 Cheapest States To Buy Cooking Gas in Nigeria

  • The National Bureau of Statistics has disclosed the average cost of refilling 5kg and 12.5kg cooking gas cylinders in Nigeria
  • The report indicated that, although prices decreased slightly month-on-month in July 2025, they are still considerably higher than during the same period last year
  • The NBS data also revealed that in some states, residents paid below the national average, while in others, the cost of cooking gas was considerably higher

New data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed that the average retail price for refilling a 5kg cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, fell slightly in July 2025.

The report revealed that the price dropped by 0.96% month-on-month, from N8,323.95 in June 2025 to N8,243.79 in July 2025. However, on a year-on-year basis, the price surged by 37.98%, compared to N5,974.55 in July 2024.

Adamawa recorded the highest average price for refilling a 5kg cylinder at N9,011.36, followed by Rivers (N9,005.00) and Taraba (N8,945.43).

Yobe recorded the lowest price at N7,612.00, followed by Niger (N7,662.00) and Nasarawa (N8,000.25).

Price of cooking gas 12.5kg

The report also showed that the average retail price for refilling a 12.5kg cylinder of LPG decreased by 1.91% month-on-month, from N21,010.56 in June 2025 to N20,609.48 in July 2025.

On a year-on-year basis, however, prices rose sharply by 44.51%, compared to N14,261.57 in July 2024.

Adamawa again recorded the highest average retail price at N22,528.39, followed by Rivers (N22,512.49) and Taraba (N22,363.57).

Yobe posted the lowest price at N19,030.00, followed by Niger (N19,154.99) and Nasarawa (N20,000.62).

Kerosene price in Nigeria ranked 12th cheapest worldwide

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Nigeria has emerged as the 12th cheapest country in the world for kerosene prices.

The ranking is according to new global data, which compared kerosene prices across 61 countries, showed that Nigerians currently pay an average of N1,013.7 per litre.
