Kanu's Lawyer Issues A Statement

Sahara Reporters published a statement from the lawyer of Nnamdi Kanu, Egechukwu Obetta, who blamed Department for State Services (DSS) of denying to release the leader of IPOB.

Obetta speaks about Kanu's detention and events surrounding his suit.

The lawyer stated that radio Biafra director he has been denied access to medical and legal help during since October 14, when he was arrested.

Kanu's lawyer also blamed the court and DSS of rejecting to release his client despite their assertion that they have met all bail conditions demanded by the court.

The statement also lists Obetta's next decisions, which comprise hosting “a meeting of representatives of all non-governmental organizations in Nigeria, ” and “petition the Chief Justice of Nigeria, the National Human Rights Commission, the National Assembly and the Nigeria Bar Association.”

Obetta also noted that his law firm is preparing a legal appeal to the Human Rights Court in the Economic Community of West African States.

The arraignment of Kanu has caused protests in recent weeks throughout southern states in Nigeria and globally.

Alongside with the calls for release of Kanu, many activists are also agitating for independence and greater autonomy of the Biafran region from the Nigerian federation.
