The army also said it has freed 200 girls and 93 women from the Sambisa forest, the notorious stronghold of the insurgents.

During the last months Nigerian Armed Forces have taken back most of the territory previously under the control of Boko Haram.

In March this year, Boko Haram pledged its loyalty to Islamic State militants and their caliphate stretched across Iraq and Syria.

President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to halt the sect by December. Nigeria’s homegrown extremist group has responded with a relentless campaign of suicide bombings.
