Breaking: Gunmen Open Fire Inside Mosque In Yobe, Kill 20

Unknown gunmen have been reported to have opened fire in a mosque in Yobe State, north-eastern Nigeria, killing no fewer than 20 worshippers in the process.

According to one of the survivors of the attack, Musa Ibrahim, a civil servant,  the gunmen struck before dawn Saturday as residents of Buni Gari village were gathering for the first prayer of the day.

The village is about 100 kilometers (60 miles) south of the Yobe state capital of Damaturu in an area that has been attacked numerous times.

It could be recalled that mosques have been a frequent target of militants who threaten Muslim clerics who preach against their extremist doctrine.

Recently, suspected members of Boko Haram sect attacked a military checkpoint in Ngelzarma community of Fune Local Government Area of Yobe State.

More than 1,200 civilians have been killed this year amid more frequent and deadlier attacks by the Boko Haram terrorist network that wants to create an Islamic state in Nigeria. 

Yobe State is a state located in Northern Nigeria. A mainly agricultural state, it was created on August 27, 1991.

Yobe was carved out of Borno State. The capital of Yobe state is Damaturu.
