Up to three female hostages of Boko Haram escape in Borno.

The Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, revealed on December 24, 2013, Tuesday that some women kidnapped by the Boko Haram sect in Bama have escaped from their captives.

Mr. Shettima stated this while speaking to journalists in Abuja after meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan.

Responding to questions on the claim that the barrack is now deserted, Mr. Shettima said:

The Governor also commended the Federal Government for the current efforts to deal with the insurgency.

The military had on Monday announced that it destroyed over 20 vehicles transporting the suspected terrorists who carried out the Friday attack, killed at least 50 Boko Haram members.

It would be recalled that a group of Boko Haram insurgents assaulted the Mohammed Kur Barracks in Bama, about 40 kilometres outside Maiduguri, killing several people and taking hostages, including women and children, in the early hours of December 20, 2013, Friday.
