Ogun PDP Expels Obasanjo

Ogun PDP Expels Obasanjo

The Ogun state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced Olusegun Obasanjo’s expulsion from the party.

The chapter made this announcement two hours after former president Obasanjo announced his exit from the PDP, tearing his membership card into pieces today, Monday, February 16.

There were indications that Obasanjo had finally decided to part ways with the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Punch reported that the ex-leader of the nation had destroyed his membership card publicly.

Some sources suggest that the tearing up of his PDP membership card may have been intended to show his attitude to the previous public face-off between Obasanjo and the administration of the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan.

Obasanjo is a founding member of the ruling party and the first democratically elected president of the PDP. He was elected Nigeria’s president twice (1999 and 2003) on the platform of the PDP.

Meanwhile, Ogun state governor, Ibikunle Amosun, has said that there are no strong opposition parties in the state. He even expressed his assurance that the PDP is completely dead in the state.
